Why PDP National Convention will hold in Ibadan this weekend – BoT member, Onyia

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Board of Trustees, BoT, Ejiofor Onyia, has insisted tha the party’s National Convention will hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, this weekend, to elect new leaders and restore its former glory.

Onyia made this statement on Wednesday, while responding to questions on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.

A faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, secured a court injunction to stop the convention from holding, while it suspended Uma Damagum, alongside other principal members.

Also, a founding member of the party and former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, last week secured another a court order barring the opposition party from holding the planned event.

“The convention will hold. Remember when we were having the issue of Secretaryship and there were court cases from all corners until the Supreme Court ruled that the courts were overstepping their bounds that they have no business in the internal affairs of the party,” he argued.

“We should predicate our actions on the Supreme Court’s decision. The convention holds this weekend. We are heading to the convention, which holds this weekend in Ibadan.

“We will elect the next set of executives who will take over leadership and restore the PDP to its former glory.”
