What inspired me to delve into music—Jodee Singz

Talented Haitian-American songstress, Jodee Singz, has opened up on what inspired her to become a musician.

Speaking in an interview with TMY Newspaper, the ebony black beautiful artist said, “what inspired me to become an artist was the fact that al ot of people struggle with expressing how they truly feel and music is a form of expression. I always say Life is a metaphor and music communicates it”

Commenting on when she realized music was her true passion, Jodee Singz said, “it was when I started singing in church, it was always the way it made me feel, almost angelic, hearing the instruments compliment my vocals and harmonies and the acoustics in the room”.

Responding to what influenced her the most while growing up, she said , “From a musical perspective, my nother definitely influenced me, she was definitely a well known Haitian gospel artist and personally, my Grandmother, how she raised me, her strength, the stories of how she was a woman of Valor in Haiti, what she fought for ,who she fought and her independence, relying on no one to aid her in her growth”.

Speaking on how being an Haitian-American woman and cultural background shaped her music, she said, “though not born in Haiti , the music I listened to ,the food Iate ,the language I spoke and wrote all played a part of my background. My first language was not English because we barely spoke thome and I had to teach myself how to speak it and write it and read it.

“Therefore, everything I’ve learned growing up, I applied and lived by it daily. That is how I am now able to apply it to my music today to communicate to a wide variety of my audience”, added Jodee Singz.

Speaking on how she blends Haitian roots with your American upbringing in the delivery of her music, Jodee Singz said, “well, lets say, I do not blend it, I am my Haitian Roots. There was absolutely nothing about my upbringing that was close to American. The only difference is when I create my music, I often use our traditional Kompa beat or Racine Beat and sing in either both English and Haitian creole or just in english”.

On the challenges she has had to deal with to maintain a big and beautiful brand in the music industry, Singz said, ” I had artists that offered to pay for my tummy tuck, BBL any surgery at this point, yet in the end still trying to smash , as I still am a plus size woman”.
