NLC tells Nigerians: to reject ‘distorted’ Tax Law

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has told Nigerians to reject any tax law that “was distorted or falsified.”
In his 2025 Christmas message, NLP
President, Joe Ajaero said that distortions and alleged forgery associated with certain tax policies reduce credibility and public trust.
According to Ajaero, “Together, in this season and beyond, we must insist on Tax Justice where the rich pay their fair share and all forms of regressive taxation are removed.
“Any tax system that is mired in apparent distortion and outright forgery is unacceptable and should therefore be rejected by all.
“It is better to patiently craft a law that is broadly crafted and owned than rush into one filled with serious errors and outright political manipulations,” the President of NLC said.
He appealed to Nigerians to be united in demanding equitable governance and reiterated its commitment to mobilising workers to resist policies that worsen economic hardship.
In a related development, the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating alleged discrepancies in the gazetted Tax Reform Acts has resolved to conclude its assignment and submit its report to the House within the shortest possible time.
Chaired by Muktar Aliyu Betara (Borno, APC), the committee, met for the first time on Tuesday, December 23, to deliberate on a Privilege Matter raised by a member of the house at plenary over inconsistencies between the laws passed by the National Assembly and the gazetted versions.
