Lagos govt announces resumption date for schools

Lagos State Government has slated Monday, January 12, 2026, as the date for resumption for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session for all public and private schools in the state.

The announcement, which also covers government-owned technical colleges, was made in a statement released in line with the approved academic calendar for Lagos State schools.

The government said schools are expected to begin full academic and administrative activities immediately upon resumption to ensure the seamless continuation of the school year.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged school proprietors and administrators to observe all approved public health and safety regulations as students return to school.

He noted that monitoring teams have been deployed by the government to schools across the state to assess compliance with established safety standards, stressing that adherence to the guidelines is mandatory.

“All educational institutions must strictly comply with the required public health protocols as schools reopen,” the commissioner said, adding that the inspections are designed to protect the health and safety of students, teaching staff and non-teaching personnel.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education also kauded teachers, parents and guardians for their continued cooperation, describing their support as vital to sustaining stability within the education sector.
