PDP postpones screening of aspirants for 2025 National Convention

The ma in opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced a delay in the screening of aspirants for its 2025 Elective National Convention, which was earlier fixed for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, the PDP said that the postponement was caused by “unforeseen circumstances.”
Fintiri said that the party would announce a fresh date for the exercise and assured all aspirants and members that the committee regrets any inconvenience the change might have caused to party members.
“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
“All aspirants and members of our Party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly,” added the statement
He reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring a credible, transparent, and seamless national convention of the PDP.
TMY News correspondent reports that the 2025 Elective National Convention of the PDP was earlier fixed for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
On October 25, 2025, the PDP had announced a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee responsible for vetting aspirants for various national positions ahead of the convention.
The committee, chaired by former governorship candidate of Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, was expected to conduct the screening on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The postponement was announced shortly after former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, made known his intention to run for the office of the national chairman.
This development came after earlier reports that northern PDP leaders had endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the chairmanship seat.
But various factions within the PDP including those loyal to Lamido and Nyesom Wike, had objected to Turaki’s endorsement, citing inadequate consultation.
The conflict highlights the growing tension within the PDP’ which in the previous months has seen notable resignations among its rank and file.
