Ndidi to captain Eagles at AFCON 2025 in Morocco

Wilfred Ndidi will captain the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following the retirement of William Troost-Ekong.

TMY Newspaper reports that Troost-Ekong announced his retirement from international football on Thursday.

Ndidi, who captained the Super Eagles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco last month, is now expected to take up the captainship role at the AFCON 2025.

The midfielder and winger, Moses Simon are at the moment the most senior members of the Super Eagles.

Simon is expected to be named vice-captain.

Ndidi, who played his first match for the Super Eagles in August 2015, has featured 71 times for the senior national team.

He was ruled out of last year’s delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire due to injury.
