Virgil van Dijk has issued a defiant message to Arsenal and Manchester City, insisting Liverpool are still in the Premier League title race despite a humbling 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
The Reds captain says his side is ‘ready for a big fight’ and won’t give up on their ambition to retain the crown.
Liverpool’s title defense took another hit on Sunday as they were outclassed by a resurgent Manchester City in Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager.
Despite slipping to eighth in the table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, Van Dijk remains optimistic. ‘We are not going to give up whatsoever,’ he said. “We’re in November, and we’re ready for a long season and a big fight.’
He acknowledged City’s superiority on the day, particularly praising Doku’s performance, but emphasized the need for Liverpool to find consistency and improve their pressing game.
‘We had more momentum in the second half, but our pressing wasn’t good enough,’ he admitted.
