Chelsea seek to end Arsenal dominance in Stamford Bridge showdown

Chelsea will attempt to end a long-standing Premier League streak against Arsenal when the two sides meet in Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues trail the Gunners by six points, with both clubs buoyed by emphatic Champions League victories in midweek — Chelsea sweeping aside Barcelona 3-0, while Arsenal stunned Bayern Munich 3-1.

Despite Chelsea’s resurgence under Enzo Maresca, Mikel Arteta’s side hold the upper hand heading into the derby. Arsenal have never lost to Chelsea in the Premier League when sitting top of the table, winning all four previous encounters in such circumstances between 2003 and 2024.

The recent head-to-head record also favours the Gunners. Chelsea have managed just one win in their last 11 league meetings with Arsenal and are winless in the last seven. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last six trips to Stamford Bridge and have lost only three of their last 40 London derbies.

Arteta himself boasts a 58.3% win rate against Chelsea, ranking behind only Pep Guardiola and Kenny Dalglish among managers with ten or more games against the Blues.

For Chelsea, much of the spotlight will fall on teenage sensation Estevao Willian, but Pedro Neto may prove the more decisive figure.

The Portuguese winger has been in sparkling form, registering three goals and two assists in his last five league appearances. Neto recently reached 50 Premier League goal contributions — 19 goals and 31 assists — across 158 matches, underlining his importance to Maresca’s attack.
