For their brilliant performance in the colours of Nigeria, Super Eagles trio Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey have made the team of the tournament for the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the best XI of the 2025 AFCON on Wednesday.
Galatasaray forward Osimhen scored four goals and gave two assists for the Super Eagles as Nigeria won AFCON bronze for the ninth time.
Atalanta striker Lookman had the most goal contributions in the tournament. He scored four goals and assisted three more to be named among the best AFCON players for the second consecutive tournament.
Centre back Bassey was one of the standout performers for the Eagles, delivering solid defensive efforts. The 26-year-old Fulham player was the leader of the team’s defence that kept clean sheets through the knockout phase of the competition.
Also.in the list is Sadio Mane, who was named the competition’s best player, and Brahim Diaz, the golden boot winner and highest goal scorer, as well as Yassine Bono, the best goalkeeper.
Others are Idrissa Gueye, Pape Gueye, Achraf Hakimi, Moussa Niakhaté and Noussair Mazraoui.
Senegal won the 2025 AFCON, defeating Morocco 1-0 in extra time in a dramatic final.
