COAS Aneke says coup plotters will face full wrath of the law

Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, has warned that any operative of the Armed Forces of Nigeria caught planning or attempting to displace the present democratic government in Nigeria will face the full wrath of the law.

Air Marshal Aneke described the recent alleged coup plot against the President Bola Tinubu-led government by some military personnel as something “shameful, shocking, and wholly reprehensible”.

The top military officer, who disclosed this at an ongoing strategic meeting with the Commanders at the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Abuja, said that the major role of the military is to support the civil authorities.

Aneke said, “I unequivocally condemn recent revelations that plans were made by certain individuals to subvert democracy and violently take over the government.

“Such actions are shameful, shocking, and wholly reprehensible. Any perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law. The Nigerian Air Force remains loyal to the Constitution and the democratically elected government of the day.

“Accordingly, commanders are reminded of their responsibility to maintain unity and cohesion within the ranks while checking all forms of indiscipline and unlawful activity.”
