Tinubu appoints Disu as acting Inspector General of Police

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as the acting inspector-general of police (IGP).
In a statement, Special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as the IGP.
Onanuga said Egbetokun cited “pressing family considerations” for his resignation.
Tinubu is expected to call fora meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider the appointment of Disu, after which his name will be sent to senate for confirmation.
“The President is confident that AIG Disu’s experience, operational depth, and demonstrated leadership capacity will provide steady and focused direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period,” the statement reads.
“In compliance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of AIG Disu as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
“The President reiterates his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing national security, strengthening institutional capacity, and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and fully equipped to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.”
