M.I and I never dated, we only formed great characters in ‘One Naira’ – Waje

Nigerian singer, Aituaje ‘Waje’ Iruobe, better known as Waje, has dispelled rumours of having a fling with rapper, M.I Abaga, when she featured in ‘One Naira’
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Waje narrated how she came into featuring in the track.
“Noble Igwe is my friend and I met M.I when we were doing MTV Base Advance Warning. So Noble Igwe was like ‘I’m going to M.I’s house, let’s go’. We went and M.I said he was working on a song and that I should try to do the chorus. I tried, wrote many things and I tried to sing it and M.I was like ‘it was too chizzy, I want everybody to feel it,’” she stated.
The singer revealed that her mum became the inspiration for her chorus, after standing with her in her toughest times growing up as a teenager who got pregnant at 16.
Waje disclosed that M.I’s girlfriend at the time was the face behinf the voive over in the song.
“So my mum again comes into the question. So my mum was the inspiration behind ‘One Naira’. and I wrote that verse and instantly, and when I sang it, M.I was like this is the best. A lot of people, because of the animated me in the helicopter, though me and M.I dated. We never dated. We were just friends who saw how a love story in a great song can be and we created characters. We helped drag the song,” she stated.
“His girlfriend at the time was the one who even did the voice overs, not me.”
