Estevao outshines Yamal as Chelsea demolish Barcelona

Chelsea delivered a statement performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night, dismantling Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to underline their growing credentials on the European stage.

Seven years after suffering the same scoreline against Lionel Messi’s Barça, the Blues turned the tables with a dominant display that showcased both resilience and attacking flair. Enzo Fernández twice had the ball in the net early on, only to be denied by a handball and then the offside flag, but Chelsea’s relentless pressure eventually forced Jules Koundé into an own goal midway through the first half.

Barcelona’s night unravelled further when captain Ronald Araújo was sent off for two bookings in quick succession, making them only the third team in Champions League history to score an own goal and receive a red card in the first half of a match. Reduced to 10 men, Hansi Flick’s side never recovered.

Chelsea pressed home their advantage after the break. Andrey Santos won possession high up the pitch, Reece James fed Estêvão, and the 18-year-old Brazilian produced a dazzling solo effort to become the second-youngest player to score in each of his first three Champions League starts, behind only Kylian Mbappé. Liam Delap later added a third to seal a famous victory.

Barcelona managed just one clear chance through Ferran Torres in the opening minutes, but otherwise offered little threat. Chelsea, by contrast, looked every inch a team capable of challenging for Europe’s biggest prize, their summer FIFA Club World Cup triumph now appearing less a fluke and more a sign of their rising power.
