El-Rufai for arraignment on February 25
The Department of State Services (DSS) will on Wednesday, February 25, arraign former governor of Kaduna state,
Nasir el-Rufai over alleged cybercrime and breach of national security.
He will be arraigned before judge of a federal high court in Abuja Joyce Abdulmalik
On February 18, the DSS briefly took el-Rufai into custody after the ex-Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister spent two nights with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Last Saturday, during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, el-Rufai said “someone wiretapped” the phone of Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA), allowing him to listen to the NSA directing security operatives to effect his arrest.
The DSS on Monday, filed a three-count charge against el-Rufai for allegedly intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation.
The secret police said the alleged offence contravened the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment, Act, 2024 and the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
El-Rufai has been in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged corruption during his time as Kaduna governor.
